Samir Laghouati-Rashwan is a graduate of the École supérieure d’art & de design Marseille-Méditerranée (2020). He currently runs the Drift Space in Marseille and is part of the Ateliers de la Ville de Marseille support program lead by Triangle-Astérides. For his practice, Samir Laghouati-Rashwan uses small, seemingly trivial, everyday, contemporary and above all apolitical objects. A bottle of tonic or a tracksuit rolled up at the ankle. Supermarket caddies and caravan windows. The work he develops around these objects, however, challenges their supposed banality; they become carriers of colonial histories and geopolitical complexes.
Since his graduation, his work has been shown in Hijack City at the SCEP gallery, Marseille, Sur pierres brûlantes at Triangle-Astérides, Marseille, Les chichas de la pensée at the Magasins Généraux, Pantin, Diaspora at Home at the Kadist foundation, Paris, at the Show-Room Art-O-Rama, Marseille, Festival Around Vidéo, Lille, Material Witness at Eliane project, Bordeaux.
Triangle-Astérides is a contemporary art centre of national interest, established since its foundation in 1994 within the cultural cooperative Friche la Belle de Mai, a former tobacco factory in Marseille.
Triangle-Astérides articulates a demanding programme of exhibitions (monographs, duos and collective exhibitions) with research and experimentation residencies of French and international artists (within the main programme and partnership programmes), workshops with artistic and curatorial support (workshop(s) programmed in partnership and Ateliers de la Ville de Marseille), to which are added events, editorial projects and a careful work carried out with all the audiences.
